THE ARACHNOLOGY HOME PAGE

HISTORY - WANTED - ACKNOWLEDGEMENTS

History

At the 1994 meetings of the American Arachnological Society, Mark Stowe (University of Florida, USA) led a workshop on the potential usefulness of the Internet for arachnologists. This led, through the efforts of Herman Vanuytven (Belgium) to the May 1995 creation of the Arachnology Internet Mailing List.

On June 1995 Herman started with the Arachnology Home Page to make an index of all the arachnological sites on the Internet, and in February 1997, Nils Koesters (Germany) took over the Arachnology Mailing List. On February 3, 1998, Richard Adams (UK) took over the Arachnology Mailing List, a later, in 2000, Nils took it back again. In February 2001, the list moved once more: now it is administered by Shawn McGovern. You can find more info about the list at the home page of THE ARACHNOLOGY MAILING LIST.

In December 2002, the Arachnology Web pages moved to the International Society for Arachnology where they reside today. William Piel is currently the administrator, together with several associate editors.

Wanted

The Arachnology Home Page contains about 2000 links to arachnid related sites and is accessed more than 1000 times every day, indicating that there is a great deal of interest amongst users of the net in information about arachnids.

Maybe you can help us improve this page? We are looking for any and all kinds of arachnological information on the Internet : databases, pictures, movies, files etc. If you know of any interesting locations, please let us know!

If you have a site dealing with arachnids, please tell us so we can put a link to it.

You can contact me at contact

Acknowledgements

Many thanks to Herman Vanuytven for building this great resource and a special thanks to everyone who provided information, pictures or links.
